The kitchen wasn't workout out too well, space-wise... there was an upright narrow chinacainet kind of piece agains one wall, and then an atempt at having a circular kitchen table kind of against a wall and not quite in a corner... it ended up being pretty awkward to try to navigate if more than 1 person was in the kitchen.
Elizabeth had this neat idea for a tile countertop type of island replacing the table, with space onone side to sit and space on the other side for shelves for storage of large items. I designed to exactly that idea, and after a week or two of planning and shopping, I began:
First, a nice piece of plywood for the top, and some nice oak rails around the edge to give it a solid countertop feel:
I cut one of the long rails a few millimeters too short, but hadn't left mysefl enough wood on that piece to fix the problem, so I fixed it using the fantastic mitre saw that my father-in-law had given me for the previous Xmas. That saw can cut *very* fine pieces of wood indeed!
Continuing with the tile countertop!
